Performance venue planning online talent show during COVID-19

Live entertainment is for the most part impossible to enjoy while many performance businesses are closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This North Battleford venue is offering something to help fill the sensory gap – a virtual talent show of local entertainment online.

She-NANIGANS is hosting a new show called Battlefords Got Talent. It is currently accepting video entry submissions from anyone/group that wants to participate in the competition. Videos performances can be for any art form – music, dance or even juggling for instance. Then, the contestants’ videos will be available to see online through She-NANIGANS Facebook Page.

Venue partner Kelly Waters said the facility was open for only about a month when the pandemic measures started and many businesses needed to close. So the organizers decided to start a local talent online competition until the venue is able to open again.

“We barely opened when this all happened. So we thought it would be fun if we did something like this. Then, it’s all online; it’s safe,” she said of the idea for the competition.

Waters said when the venue is able to open again, whenever the pandemic measures are eventually lifted, the top participants in the talent competition will be able to perform live in front of an audience.

“People can enter any time until the end of April,” Waters said. “Once we’re safe to open again, we’ll do live semi-finals and finals [performances] in She-NANIGANS.”

She said the judges as well as the public online will have input on deciding the winner. The top contestant will receive a VIP show and dinner-for-four night out at She-NANIGANS.
