On Friday evening, the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation declared a state of emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Muskeg Lake Cree Nation said in a statement that all non-essential operations will cease while under the state of emergency. All essential services like health will continue.
All roads will be closed with the exception of emergency and essential travel. Checkpoints will screen those attempting to enter Muskeg Lake, to ensure they are not a risk of spreading the virus.
The state of emergency will remain in effect until public health officials declare the COVID-19 threat has passed, in which case the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation will lift the order.
