Battlefords family plan a ‘Clap for Healthcare’ to show support

A North Battleford family are asking people in the community to take part in a “Clap for Healthcare” event this Saturday.

The show of support will take place between 7:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. outside Battlefords Union Hospital.

The organizer, Krista Fox, said she and her family plan to stand outside their home located near the hospital to take part also and give a round of applause for all those who work in the healthcare field, putting in long hours to help others during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, impacting all communities around the world.

“It’s a small token of our appreciation for those essential workers that have to get up, and still put their lives in danger every day,” Fox said.

Fox said people taking part can stay in their vehicles, or stand across the street near the hospital in North Battleford while still following the province’s social distancing orders – staying at least two metres from others.

“I’ve had responses already of people who are going to join us,” she said.

People can also clap and show their support for healthcare workers from their own doorsteps where they live.

Fox said anyone in the Battlefords who wants to participate in the event is invited to send a video to her through her Facebook Page so she can share it later.

“Whatever they can do,” she said.

Many other communities around the world have also taken part in Clap for Healthcare events to give a boost to those working in the healthcare field during this challenging time.

Fox said she feels “this is my way of thanking those essential workers who are doing their best to keep my family and your family safe and healthy.”
