A new delivery service for La Ronge restaurants is expected to be operational by the end of the week.

That’s according to Dash Delivers Founder Chris Thomas, who said he was contacted by a Dairy Queen Grill and Chill owner about bring the service to town. Dash Delivers already operates in 36 markets in Canada including Warman and Martensville.

“With the COVID crisis, restaurants are hurting and the dine-in is shutdown,” he said. “They are looking for any way possible to keep their workers with hours and keep the food going out the door. We’ve had an absolute influx of restaurants from across the country in rural places looking for us to get there as fast as we can.”

So far, three contract drivers have signed up to work for the company and Dairy Queen is the only businesses to partner with them. Other restaurants are welcome to contact Dash Delivers to join, and if any residents are interested in driving, they should own a vehicle with courier insurance, as well as a cellphone with a data plan.

While it’s still unknown what the compensation rate in La Ronge will be, Thomas noted drivers in most other markets earn $4 per delivery with an average tip of $4 per stop. Most drivers hope to do two or three orders per hour to make between $16 to $24 per hour with wage and tip included.

“It’s always a mystery what the reaction will be and how busy we will be in each town,” Thomas said. “The size of the population doesn’t always determine how busy you will be, it’s more what good restaurants do you have that will create demand.”

Dash Delivers, which was founded in 2015 as a marketing tool for restaurants in Brandon, MB, competes with Skip The Dishes, Uber Eats and Door Dash. Dash Delivers, however, is focused on more rural communities without the presence of those larger companies.
