The Saskatchewan Health Authority has plans to establish a COVID-19 assessment site in La Ronge.

That’s according to an email sent to larongeNOW by health authority spokesperson Doug Dahl, who wrote the site would provide assessment and treatment of people with symptoms that have progressively worsened over consecutive days and are consistent with COVID-19.

The testing site currently established at La Ronge’s Kikinahk Friendship Centre only does testing. Testing at the site began about one month ago.

“The opening date for the site has not yet been determined and will be based on factors that include number of individuals presenting with symptoms, and the total number of cases in the community and surrounding area,” he said. “Work is underway on an identified location in order to be operational when required.”

The email also mentioned the La Ronge Health Centre has a process in place to assess individuals coming to the facility with symptoms consistent with COVID-19. Individuals going to the health center with symptoms, are asked to call ahead in order to prepare for their arrival, which includes measures to separate them from other patients and ensure staff are utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment.

As with other assessment site, it’s likely those wanting to be tested will need an appointment and referral. Patients can be referred by a family physician, calling the HealthLine 811 or contacting their local Public Health Communicable Disease Control office.
