Local hospital cautions public about direct food donations

Apr 16, 2020 | 2:03 PM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority does not want the public to spend time or money on any donation efforts hospitals cannot accept.

The SHA is asking for public cooperation dropping off any supplies directly to facilities including any donation of food and beverages to health-care workers. The SHA has donation guidelines that include not bringing food items to any health-care facility, or provide these to any health-care worker to bring into work for sharing, the authority said.

According to a release from the government, the best way to help health-care workers the most right now, is by following directions set out by the Government of Saskatchewan and Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab.

Supply donations

Meadow Lake residents’ generosity and support during this uncertain time is appreciated however, the SHA is asking for public support in staying safe which includes being conscious of donations.

The SHA is working with provincial agencies to accept donations from suppliers, industry associations, companies, small businesses and organized donation drives.

To assure the integrity of the supplies, SHA asks donations be appropriately packaged in sealed, unopened boxes. Health authorities can accept sealed Masks, Non-latex gloves and disposable gowns

Supplies and items not accepted

The SHA said their goal is to remain vigilant on what it is accepted for infection prevention control standards, and needs to have the procurement process in place to ensure proper supply planning and management across the system.

To ensure infection and control standards, the SHA will not accept sewn masks, gowns, opened boxes or individual supplies.

If you have sealed supplies you would like to donate, email procurement@gov.sk.ca with your information and you will be contacted with further arrangements. There are no drop-off sites created.
