Social distancing in effect for upcoming in-person La Ronge council meeting

An in-person regular La Ronge council meeting will go ahead as usual April 22 at 7 p.m. with some exceptions.

According to a public notice issued earlier this week, residents were advised only some members of council will be present at the meeting while others will be participating remotely.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, the province’s health orders will be in effect and there will only be a maximum of 10 people allowed in the council chambers at any one time. Social distancing measures will be enforced as well.

“We are still having the meeting, but we have to follow the social distancing, so we’re only allowing so many people and members of the council who want to come,” La Ronge Mayor Ron Woytowich said. “Some are going by phone or Skype. I don’t use that, so I have to be in attendance.”

Woytowich mentioned day-to-day operations with the municipality continue to run smoothly as employees work to maintain regular services in the least disruptive manner possible. Waste collection continues and residents are able to make payments to the town via e-transfer or online.

Residents are also reminded if assistance is needed to pick up groceries and other essential items, they can contact community programmer Avyn Koyl at 1-306-425-7128 to make necessary arrangements. The service is available to seniors and those with underlying health conditions.

“I have gone there a few times to sign cheques and things like that, but it appears to be running really smooth,” Woytowich said about the town office. “There’s the social distancing and the doors are locked, but they are providing all the services they can hopefully by phone.”
