Positive COVID-19 case surfaces at Beauval General Store

Apr 29, 2020 | 12:00 PM

The Beauval General Store and Gas Station located south of Beauval has temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. Recent customers have been advised to self-isolate until May 12.

A staff member of the store who did not want to be identified, confirmed with meadowakeNOW all employees were tested on April 28 and are awaiting results. The individual was unable to confirm how many staff members work at the store.

According to a statement released by Des Nedhe Group today, the employee, who last worked in the store on April 24, is now at home in isolation.

“Applicable employees have been directed to self-isolate out of an abundance of caution and will be tested if they experience symptoms,” the statement said. “Additional contract tracing is still being carried out by Saskatchewan public health.”

The store is closed in order to ensure thorough cleaning and sanitization of the site. Management plans to reopen the store when it is safe.

A statement released by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) later on Wednesday said the store employee had tested positive for coronavirus. SHA said they and Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) are advising customers who recently shopped or bought gas at this store between April 12 and April 27 to self-isolate until May 12, 2020 and monitor for symptoms of COVID-19.

Progressive COVID-19 safety protocols were implemented at the location since early March, including social distancing measures and enhanced procedures for hand washing, sanitation and frequent cleaning of high-touch surfaces, the statement said.

The Beauval General Store is a part of the Des Nedhe Group of companies owned by the English River First Nation.

Editor’s note: this story was amended to include information issued later on Wednesday by SHA.
