Humboldt Big Brothers Big Sisters postponing charity golf tournament

The Humboldt chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is postponing one of its biggest fundraisers of the year.

The Diva for a Day charity golf scramble that was scheduled for June 13, will be put off until August 1 due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Development coordinator Jodie Hergott said this specific event typically sees around 18 teams or 72 ladies at the course for the day.

“There is a caddy auction, all kinds of silent auction and raffles along with their nine holes of golf with vendors at each tee box,” Hergott said.

Although golf courses can open on May 15, it is a bit of different scenario for tournaments since it would be over the 10-person gathering limit put in place by the Saskatchewan Government.

With a large portion of the event taking place in the clubhouse and as a group setting, hosting the event would be unfeasible.

“If all of those restrictions are still in place by the August date, we may have to look at 2021 but we are also looking at some other fun options to be able to offer the tournament to the ladies of the community,” Hergott said.

The theme for this year is “Greece is the word.”

All of the funds raised at the event goes directly back into the BBBS Humboldt programming which includes making matches and recruiting mentors.

There are 24 children on the waitlist at the time, with the majority on the list being boys so organizers hope male mentors will step up.

“We are also in need of volunteers in other aspects and for group events,” Hergott said.

Call the BBBS Humboldt office at 306-682-2829.

“We also want to remind people to shop local and support those businesses that are very important for the charities in the community such as ours,” Hergott said.
