City of Melfort taking in nominations of kind acts for quilt giveaway

May 5, 2020 | 11:03 AM

Working together through unprecedented times hasn’t been easy but residents of Melfort and area have shown many acts of caring through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Melfort is asking residents in the area to nominate someone that has made a difference for them during quarantine.

Kerry Vickar Centre (KVC) Program Coordinator Kathy Gray said they are looking for acts big and small.

“We have engaged through many media outlets continuing to maintain our caring spirit,” Gray said. “Every kind act makes a difference in someone’s world and we want to know who has made a difference for you.”

The KVC will be accepting nominations for the unsung heroes in the area through email, phone, or Facebook messenger.

Those nominated will be put into a draw for an inspirational quilt from the City of Melfort.

“The message in the quilt is to showcase the caring spirit that is so prevalent in our community,” Gray said.

Some examples Gray provided are simply putting hearts in windows, checking on neighbours, offering support to families trying to juggle home life, work life, and school life. Also getting groceries, donating to the food bank, and creating safe environments for customers and staff, as well as stores following regulations knowing it won’t be easy.

The draw date for the quilt has not yet been announced as nominations are still coming in.

“We just think it will be so nice to recognize some of these kind things,” Gray said.
