Tisdale area car club saluting essential workers with community cruise

The Doghide River Rods and Relics car club will be doing a cruise tomorrow night in the town of Tisdale as a salute to essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tisdale area car club was formed last summer and began by meeting each Thursday for coffee and rotating between different restaurants in town.

Tisdale cruise organizer and co-founder of the car club, Darrell Davis said the idea for the cruise came from a fellow member who thought it would be nice to simply have a cruise and get cars together while still being socially distanced.

“It just sort of morphed from there and it went to being a cruise that would raise awareness for the food bank and salute the essential workers in town,” Davis said.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Heritage road, and will begin at 7 p.m. where it will proceed past the hospital, seniors’ homes, and the grocery stores.

The Beeland Co-op grocery store and Buy Low Foods are collecting items, which the car club will pick-up and drop at the food bank the following day.

“Every little bit counts and both grocery stores collect donations as it is so this is maybe just awareness and if we can get extra donations because of this then that would be perfect,” Davis said.

If this particular cruise goes well, Davis said it could potentially turn into an annual thing.

“Our first meet of the year, we could have a cruise whether it be for the food bank or another cause at that point in time,” Davis said. “It would definitely be a great start to our year for sure.”

The route is predetermined for the club to ensure the social distancing guidelines are being met and once the cruise is over everyone will go their separate ways.

“This is for the hospital workers, the janitors, the grocery store employees, the people at the tire shops,” Davis said. “We can also go by the seniors home and uplift some spirits a little bit by bringing a smile to faces at the same time.”

If there is anyone with a classic car that would like to join in on the cruise, they can do so by meeting at 6:30 p.m. with the club on Heritage road.

“We are just doing what we can as a small little car club and hopefully it makes a difference,” he said.
