The Melfort Fire Department was kept on their toes due to two fires late last week.

Crews were called to a brush fire in the RM of Star City Thursday, May 7 at 3:05 p.m.

Once they arrived, they attacked the fire head-on to stop it from spreading, and a loader was in the area and made a fire break.

The fire was jumping the break in a few areas, but crews were able to keep the blaze at bay. More heavy machinery arrived to help widen the fire break.

Crews cooled down the hot spots at the site, and proceeded to another call.

Crews were alerted around 7 p.m. as they were packing up about a structure fire in the RM of Flett’s Springs.

When crews arrived, one building had already burned to the ground, another was on fire, and livestock corrals were on fire.
