City of Melfort thanks residents for cooperation during COVID-19 pandemic

May 12, 2020 | 1:03 PM

The City of Melfort is thanking its residents for their cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Outdoor recreation facilities are closed across the province as part of the public health order set out by the provincial government. While some communities have seen people disobeying those orders by using outdoor courts, skate parks, and playgrounds, representatives from the City of Melfort say they haven’t seen that.

City Manager Ryan Danberg thanked residents for their acceptance and collective work in minimizing the spread of the virus.

“As of right now, physical distancing is more important than ever,” he said. “So we would ask that everybody to take the advice of our public health order. We can’t wait to open up our outside play areas and recreation activities, so that is all coming as part of phase four of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan.”

While all city recreation activities are closed, the City of Melfort is also trying to help cure the boredom of isolation by posting videos, and pictures with activities for families to do. They’ve ranged from crafts, to scavenger hunts, to games.

Danberg said the city will continue to post activities like that as the days progress on their website and social media channels.

He said the city hopes people continue to stay diligent and minimize the effects of the virus.

“On behalf of the entire city team, we thank you,” he said. “We ask you to be supportive, be careful, be alert and be kind, and do your part to protect our awesome community.”
