Break and enter at Bell’s Point Youth Centre

May 15, 2020 | 2:53 PM

A break and enter at the Bell’s Point Youth Centre in being investigated by the RCMP.

Staff noticed the facility was broken into this morning and Lac La Ronge Indian Band Communication Coordinator Kevin Roberts said it’s still unknown if the individuals who entered did so through a door or window. Police officers already attended the scene and it doesn’t appear any large appliances or items of great value were taken.

“We haven’t been told if there were any damages or how they got in,” Roberts said, adding a couple of items were stolen. “Right now, we were told the public works department was there because they’re involved in the housing side of things. The RCMP were there this morning.”

With the coronavirus pandemic currently underway, Roberts said it’s disappointing facilities meant for youth are being disrespected. He noted people should be staying home as much as possible and shouldn’t be out on the streets so late.

Roberts also mentioned there’s many reasons why the break-and-enter occurred. He said it could be due to home issues, lack of parenting, addiction and more.

“Even if you don’t own the facility, there’s always a sense of violation if you’re a worker or supervisor of a facility,” Roberts said. “You work there, you are involved with day-to-day activities there. People put their heart and soul into facilities like that and it’s disappointing when things happen like this.”
