Meadow Lake Lion’s Park Campground will be closed to the public for the upcoming camping season.

Construction projects were discussed this week at the most recent council meeting. Contractors arrived on May 10 to prepare for upcoming roadwork and will be occupying the space until local construction projects are completed.

“We are able to have our campground open to our contractors and not open to the public,” city manager Diana Burton said at council meeting this week. “That is what our plan is for the summer because there are a number of projects being done by the city and also the long-term care facility that will likely keep the campground busy. We were able to facilitate that because it’s not open to the public.”

Campgrounds would not have been able to open until June 1 in accordance with Saskatchewan’s Re-Open Plan, the city expects roadwork to be completed by July 1, weather permitting.

“The city itself has paving contractors as well as the contractors who will be building our new lift station who may access the campgrounds,” Burton said in an email to meadowlakeNOW.

The city’s manager said the campground will be kept busy enough with social distancing measures and restrictions in place while opened to contractors.

Burton submitted a request to the province stating the city’s plans for construction projects with only 50 per cent of the campsite open.

“That made it easier for the contractors who would have been scrambling to find a place to stay,” Mayor Merlin Seymour said.

The gravel pile at the Meadow Lake and District arena parking lot is intended for paving and workers will not be setting up their batch plant at the site near residences.
