Melfort Multi-K cancels race for 2020

There’s an update on the status of the 10th annual Melfort Multi-K that was set to take place on Sept. 19

“Unfortunately, we’ve had to make the tough decision to cancel this years event,” Race Director Allison Rogers told northeastNOW. “Obviously due to what’s going on with COVID-19, we don’t feel it is responsible to take that risk.”

The committee has decided to go somewhat virtual for this year in what will be the “Melfort Multi-K 9.5” because it won’t be considered the tenth year quite yet.

Leading up to what would have been race day, runners can download a certificate online and fill it out with a distance they ran or walked. Rogers said they want to try and keep the motivation going to keep staying active.

“We don’t care what distance it is, how you do it,” Rogers said. “Just being active, being socially distant obviously. Then we’ll draw ten names from that group on social media.”

Those names that are drawn will win some Melfort Multi-K prizes.

“Just something fun to keep people motivated to keep moving,” Rogers said. “Because that’s important during this time.”

Rogers said they had talked about doing the Multi-K in a few different ways this year, but decided that especially for the tenth year, they wanted to do it the right way. She said now they have even more time to prepare for next years event.
