P.A. SPCA is asking for any accumulating bottles and cans

Since SARCAN Recycling has been temporarily closed in Prince Albert amid the COVID-19 pandemic, residents may have an overflow of cans and bottles.

If that is the case, the Prince Albert SPCA is asking for donations of recyclable bottles and cans.

SPCA Manager Ashlee Bober told paNOW anyone who wants to donate can leave the bags outside the front door of the SPCA.

“We’ve had a lot of generous people donate their bottles to us which we really appreciate,” Bober said. “Once SARCAN opens we’ll be able to take the bottles in which will significantly help for some of the medical cases that we’ve been dealing with.”

She said those who want to donate do not need to make an appointment and can drop them off. They are open seven days a week.

“Everybody’s kind of having the same struggles of their bottles building up and they’re not able to take them in and recycle them,” she said. “They can definitely build up and get in the way. We would be more than happy to take them and the funds from the bottles will definitely go a very long ways in helping the animals here.”

She added it will be used more so for the medical needs than anything else because this time of year they get a lot of kittens coming in. The younglings do not always come in with their mothers or in the most perfect condition.

“When we have animals that have special requirements or maybe they’re orphan babies that we need to supplement them with milk because they don’t have a mom. Having the extra funds to do that makes a huge difference for their lives,” she said.

They are also accepting dog and cat food, as well as financial donations. They are still adopting out animals and can do that by making an appointment ahead of time.

“Every little bit counts as I said, and we really appreciate all the help we get from the community,” she said.
