P.A. couple does socially distant wedding

Two Prince Albert health care workers have tied the knot amid the COVID-19 situation.

Michael Gray and Tara Arcand got married late Wednesday afternoon at the Crossroads Pentecostal Assembly. The ceremony involved only ten people.

After the formalities they were greeted in the church’s parking lot by friends and family, with many honking their horns in celebration. There were also plans to have a parade to mark the occasion for the newlyweds.

Gray, who works at the Victoria Hospital in P.A., explained the two had planned to tie the knot this summer. However, with the uncertainty created by the coronavirus, he said they made the decision to go forward now rather than waiting.

“This is the new normal, we don’t know when its going to be safe for people to travel, so we were like, let’s not put it off any longer,” he said.

Gray explained he and his now wife, who works in long term care, have been on the frontlines dealing with COVID-19. He said celebrating in the parking lot was simply the best option available.

“We just have to play it safe,” he said.

Many were still absent from the occasion due to their inability to travel. Gray’s family is spread out with his mom and sisters living in Jamaica, his dad is in the United Kingdom and various other family members are across Canada and the United States. Many were planning to make the trip for the event this summer.

“It’s kind of a little bit disappointing, but at the same time, we understand what’s going on and they understand what’s going on,” he said.

Depending on how the virus ends up playing out, Gray said they are hoping to eventually travel to Jamaica to celebrate with his family when it is safe.
