Local docuseries connects community and business

A locally produced docuseries is garnering a lot of positive attention from the public.

‘The Pursuit of Life: A Return to Community’ is the brainchild of videographer Lucas Chudleigh and some of his local colleagues in the multi-media industry. The episodes highlight Prince Albert businesses and talent enduring the coronavirus pandemic.

“It was a pretty simple idea,” Chudleigh said. “We were all bored to tears and decided to fire up a documentary series to support local businesses and get their names out there and let the public know who is still rocking business and how to connect with them.”

A few videos have been produced so far with the help of Joel Mihilewicz of Big Drum Media and musician Gary O. who created original content for the shows. Each episode already has nearly 7,000 views on Facebook.

The other main objective is to encourage people to step away from online shopping and support more local businesses.

“A lot of these businesses give back to the community in interesting ways, so it would be nice to spread the word about what they do and build some connections that could lead to more business,” he said.

Recognizing that most businesses are going through a tough financial time because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chudleigh and his colleagues haven’t charged the companies they have featured. Instead, they put out some merchandise to help cover some of their costs.

“Basically, it’s a donation. You can buy a shirt or hoodie and it puts some money in our pockets to keep things going.”

Based on the support the group has received so far, Chudleigh anticipates several more episodes will be in the works. He said about 20 businesses have now reached out to them and would like to be a part of the next season of ‘The Pursuit of Life: A Return to Community.’
