Three charged with bootlegging at Pelican Narrows check point
Two adult men and a woman from the Pelican Narrows area have been charged with bootlegging.
That’s according to an RCMP press release, which states on May 21 the COVID security check point into the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation community received information that a known bootlegger was expected to be transporting alcohol into Pelican Narrows. The check point is the only entrance into the community and officers were notified the vehicle would be stopped and searched by community safety officers and local band security.
A search was conducted on a truck stopped at the check point by security personnel and numerous bottles of alcohol were located within the vehicle including 25 375 mL bottles of whiskey, six 1.75 litre bottles of whiskey, one 750 millimeter bottle of whiskey, one 750 mL bottle of vodka and 26 500 mL bottles of whiskey mixed with water.
The release noted the leadership of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation has determined the illegal distribution of alcohol is a serious health risk within the community during the current public health order and a priority for the security patrols to assist in reducing illegal alcohol in the community.
