Parkland Ambulance is celebrating Paramedic Service Week.

On Thursday afternoon the service invited kids to come to one of their two stations in Prince Albert to draw on the driveways using sidewalk chalk.

Parkland’s Director of Public Affairs Lyle Karasiuk said they wanted to do something like this to give families something to do outdoors.

“Families haven’t been able to get together and, respectful of physical distancing, we wanted to invite the kids to come out and have a chance to share with our teams, first of all Paramedics Service Week,” he said.

Karasiuk said due to the situation created by the COVID-19 virus, paramedics are not able to be out in the community, visiting schools or do open houses. He added an activity like this is a good way to engage in the current circumstances.

Besides thanking the community, Karasiuk said their medics will get a bit of a morale boost during these challenging times.

“They’ll be really uplifted by these drawings,” he said.

Jan Anderson, whose husband is a paramedic, brought her kids out to the ambulance station on 13th Street E. She said she appreciates the organization making it so families can take part in activities like these.

“The kids love their dad and they love what he does, so it’s great for them to spend some time with him while he’s at work, drawing on the sidewalk here,” she said.

Anderson said the activity also allowed them the chance to get out of the house for a while.

“It gives them an opportunity to kind of express what they’re feeling,” she said.
