Suspicious incident reported along riverbank

UPDATE – The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) reported early Thursday afternoon that officers had located the person who was the subject of a suspicious incident report this morning safe and sound.

Earlier, police were alerted to a report of a woman in distress along the riverbank. Information provided to police suggested the woman may have entered the river.

Patrol members and investigators with the police service deployed extensive resources to quickly identify and locate the woman in order to ensure her safety.

“They were quickly on scene and in the area and members were working on this file …talking with contacts…and working to locate her,” PAPS spokesperson Charlene Tebbutt told paNOW.

Police confirmed she was connected with mental health supports through the Police and Crisis Team (PACT).

First responders were on the river in Prince Albert this morning in response to a report of a suspicious incident.

It was not immediately clear what was reported.

P.A. Police spokesperson at 10:45 a.m. a male riding his bike along the Rotary Trail reported a suspicious incident to city staff.

“Essentially we’re looking for the witness who initially reported this… we’d like to speak with them as soon as possible to determine what may have happened, but at this point I don’t have a lot of details,” Tebbutt she told paNOW.

She confirmed members of the fire department were on the river.

“We’re hoping that witness will come forward and give us a call,” she said.
