MULTIWORKS BOTTLE DRIVE

Multiworks accepting bottle donations for dream vacation

SARCAN Recycling is set to reopen its recycling depots to the general public on June 15 and one community organization is asking you to consider donating your bottles.

Jesse Ramshaw, program coordinator with Multiworks Corporation told meadowlakeNOW they are holding the corporation’s annual bottle drive fundraiser.

The organization serves adults with cognitive disabilities and to date, nearly 50 community members are assisted through the service. The funds gathered from the bottle drive will go toward a special organized vacation for a group assisted by the service.

“Most communities do not have opportunities like this for their clients,” Ramshaw said. “There is a lot of rational and reason why it’s difficult for these trips to happen but it’s a great opportunity and we’re fortunate we can support it.”

Some Multiworks members contribute their time toward other community initiatives including the Door of Hope Food Bank, the Thrift Mission and other school and community initiatives.

In 2010, staff at Multiworks paid attention to their group’s discussion to one day take a vacation, and the Multiworks team developed the initiative to make their dream a reality.

“We’ve tried to listen as best as possible and hear out what people want,” Ramshaw said.

Since 2014, Multiworks took a small group of clients to Arizona, Las Vegas, Mexico and on a Disney cruise fundraised for via community donations. This year, the group is considering travelling within Canada.

Lyn Suarez, direct support professional with Multiworks, said the last few months have been particularly difficult for some clients.

“For the clients we serve, they deserve this especially [with the pandemic unfolding] these last few months,” Suarez said. “It’s been terrible for our clients to [be isolated] at home and this is a way for us to make them feel like they can enjoy their life and get the most of it.”

Ramshaw said last year’s bottle drive raised over $3,000. He hopes to gather as many donations as possible. Staff from Multiworks can arrange for recyclables to be picked up from homes within Meadow Lake and the R.M. starting today.

Items can also be directly dropped to SARCAN’s back door where a poster in the drop and go room provides directions. Organizers ask donators to ensure bags are tagged to be picked up by Multiworks Corp.

Other options include dropping off donations on the lawn of 706 Third Ave. East, 802 Seventh Ave. West or 602 First St. East. or by contacting (306) 236-3200 ext. 227.
