Two yoga in the park sessions being offered by the City of Melfort

As some restrictions on gatherings have been lifted in the province, the City of Melfort is offering two free outdoor yoga sessions.

The sessions will take place next Thursday, at 2 p.m. and at 5:45 p.m. at Rotary Park.

Program Coordinator Kathy Gray said there are limited spots available for each session.

“We are limiting to 15 because we figured with being able to social distance and still hear, we felt that 15 was a good number to start with,” Gray said.

As of June 8, outdoor gatherings will increase to 30 while indoor gatherings can increase to 15 as phase three of the Re-Open Saskatchewan plan gets underway.

Gray said with this being the first time they are offering this they could very well do so again depending on how it is received in the community.

“We will see how the turn out is for these two and we will plan accordingly,” Gray said.

Roxanne Danberg of Indigo Yoga will instruct the 2 p.m. session and Taryn McDonald with Untamed Balance Yoga will instruct the 5:45 p.m. session.

“Both are local instructors so we are very fortunate to have those resources right here in Melfort,” Gray said.

Those wishing to participate are asked to bring their own yoga mat if they have one. Registrations are being taken at the Northern Lights Palace Pool at 306-752-7200 or the Kerry Vickar Centre at 752-4177.

The sessions are for ages 12 and up.

“Our playgrounds and parks may be closed but there are still green spaces and there are a variety of ways that space can be used,” she said.
