Melfort Trade Alliance happy for local businesses that have re-opened with Phase 3

There are more businesses open and services available with the province launching phase three of its Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan.

Restaurants and bars can now open to 50 per cent capacity, while gyms, childcare facilities, places of worship and remaining personal services such as tattoo parlours and estheticians have reopened.

Melfort Trade Alliance president Tyler Fahlman told northeastNOW the launch of phase three helped improve people’s mindset.

“We’ve noticed everybody’s attitude and basically mental feeling has gotten a lot better, employees, employers, everyone,” Fahlman said. “Everybody’s happy to be able to bring their staff back, and their staff is happy to be coming back with phase three here, getting restaurants and stuff starting to open back up.”

Fahlman said most of the restaurants and other businesses reopening are locally-owned.

“[They] are excited to be able to actually talk to their customers at their tables again, because customer service is their industry, and they really do miss that part of their business,” Fahlman said.

He noted reopening the businesses will help other local organizations, as it is often those businesses that sponsor clubs and sports teams.

Phase three was launched on Monday, but Fahlman said he really noticed more buzz and activity around local businesses during the weekend.

“Everybody was outside more than I have seen this spring,” Fahlman said. “I think once the weather smartens up here a little bit we’re going to see even more of that.”

He said Melfort businesses support their community, and they hope the community continues to shop local, rather than online.

“Please buy from local business owners because they’re a part of the community and they help keep the community functioning as it has in the past, and hopefully it will continue in the future,” Fahlman said.
