Libraries remain closed in the Battlefords
Residents in the Battlefords will have to wait to access the library a little longer.
Despite having the go ahead from the province to open today as part of phase 4.2 of the province’s Re-Open Saskatchewan plan, both public libraries will keep their doors shut for the time being. In a statement, the North Battleford Library outlined the decision to delay reopening is because operating isn’t possible until the necessary personal protective equipment has arrived. Children’s librarian Korrine Millard said the delay has lasted more than a month.
“We ordered a bunch of stuff in May and we’re still waiting on it,” she said.
Library staff have been preparing for the possibility of opening their doors and plan to announce their plans once it is feasible to reopen. Curbside pickup and drop-off begins next week to allow some access to library materials. However, Millard said delays between when items are returned and then taken off individual accounts, due to pandemic restrictions, are expected.
