Melfort Legion hosting ‘Wing Night’ on Thursday

Jul 12, 2020 | 10:00 AM

The Melfort Legion is gearing up for its ‘Wing Night’ on July 16.

Normally, that Thursday would be the Back Alley Tour, highlighting various art from the region.

Unfortunately, that isn’t taking place this year along with the Melfort Fair which was also cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It would have normally started on the Friday.

Legion President Jim Graham said they were approached by some of the vendors who would normally be at the Back Alley Tour.

“We’ve been planning to get something going anyway,” he said, “So, we said ‘Oh what a great time to kick this off’ So there are a few people from the Northern Lights Wood Carvers who are going to be adjacent to the legion showing off some of their work, so it’ll be a nice add-on.”

Graham said the lounge will be open for ‘Wing Night’ and they should be able to sit almost 110 people throughout the legion while still practicing social distancing and following all health guidelines. There will be staff around sanitizing each table after it has been used as well.

“We hope to make the environment as safe as we can,” Graham said. “We’ve talked to the Health and Safety People and they’re satisfied that we are doing everything correctly.”

Graham said they will also offer takeout that night by calling 306-921-4212.

The ‘Wing Night’ hosted by the legion will be one of the larger events hosted in Melfort since the pandemic hit and Graham said hopefully there can be more events like this.

“We want to start slow and make sure we do things correctly,” he said. “And hopefully we get more comfortable at this as things go forward.”

The event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. and the lounge will open around 4 p.m. People can get wings, fries, and a desert for $15. There are also just wing options.
