Elks hosting drive-in movie nights

With entertainment lacking in the tri-communities in recent months, the La Ronge Elk’s Club has arranged an event called Drive-in at the Ex.

The service club will be showing two movies including The Great Outdoors at 9:30 p.m. on July 17, while The Lion King (2019) will be shown at the same time the following evening. Admission is free, the gates open at 8:30 p.m. and both movies will be shown at the Elk’s Exhibition Grounds.

“There’s no washrooms available because we won’t be able to sanitize them, so we’re recommending everyone goes to the washroom prior to coming,” said Exalted Ruler Shea Duncan, adding there will also be no concession available. “We’re just recommending people bring their own snacks.”

As part of coronavirus measures, Duncan noted vehicles will also be parked six-feet apart and those who attend will be asked to remain in their vehicle. The space can accommodate approximately 120 vehicles and the sound will be transmitted on FM radio.

The event is free of cost because it was sponsored by Air Ronge, La Ronge, Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the Elk’s Club.

“We’re hoping people can take advantage of this for sure,” Duncan said. “Summer is a busy time, but we also did this at the same time we would have done our fair.”

The annual fair was cancelled back in May due to the coronavirus.
