New fitness facility calls Meadow Lake home
A new fitness facility has recently opened for business in Meadow Lake.
Fitness Lair has been operating in Unity since 2013 and wants to guide local residents into looking better, feeling better, having better health and longevity. Lindsey Barber, owner of both Meadow Lake and Unity sites told meadowlakeNOW, the functional group fitness technique combines classic muscle isolation techniques while mixing compound movements similarly found in CrossFit-style exercises. She said opening a business during a pandemic was a risk she was willing to take.
“I was a little scary because even now, we still don’t know what’s going to happen,” Barber said. “We don’t know if the virus will show up more in Saskatchewan or if things are going to shut down again. I think seeing what we’ve done in Unity by moving online and knowing if things do close, that people still need their community, fitness routine and fitness as a stress relief in their life.”
When Fitness Lair in Unity temporarily closed in March, within two to three weeks the business transitioned completely online. Each client received custom exercise programming and continued with virtual gym programming. Coaches were assigned to clients to ensure they were connected, motivated and accountable. The facility allowed members to rent equipment as needed though Barber said she’s glad she is able to connect with members face-to-face.
