Businesses that have been creative and innovative in their operations are being celebrated by Community Futures Newsask.

There will be 10 local businesses selected to receive $500 each for a total of $5,000 being awarded.

Chief Executive Officer Taylor Watt said they are looking for nominations of businesses in the region that have adapted to the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are happy that we can give out some money to local businesses to help them because obviously with everything going on it can be a challenging time,” Watt said. “We are happy to do our part to help out.”

Individuals are asked to nominate businesses that operate within the Communtiy Futures Newsask region.

“We do go north to Cumberland House, east to Hudson Bay, south of Kelvington, and west to Weldon,” Watt said. “If you are on the border you can check our website for the map of locations that are eligible.”

The deadline for nominations is August 31.

There are two ways to nominate a business which include posting to the Community Futures Newsask Facebook page and describe what the business has done. An email can also be sent to Watt at Taylor@newsaskcfdc.ca and the nomination will be posted anonymously.

“We hope this will also give other businesses some ideas of what the other businesses have done and maybe they can change their operations and help them be more successful as well,” Watt said.

Businesses that have been nominated so far are the Sportsman Hotel in Kelvington, RJ’s Urban Garden in Melfort, Cindy’s Independent Grocer in Melfort, Lewellin’s Clothing and Footwear in Hudson Bay, Northern Lights Insurance in Hudson Bay, and Generations Flowers and Gifts in Hudson Bay.
