Province records 29 new cases of COVID-19, plans to expand testing capacity

There are 29 new cases of COVID-19 to report in the province as of Tuesday, which brings the total amount of cases to 1,479. There is one new case in the North West zone.

The rest of the new cases reported by the province include 17 in the Saskatoon zone, four in the Regina zone, four in the South West zone, and three in the South Central zone.

Eleven of the 17 cases reported in the Saskatoon zone are within a communal living setting outside the city.

Of the total cases, there are 165 considered active. There are 1,294 recoveries.

Eleven people are in hospital. Six are receiving inpatient care with three in Saskatoon, one in Regina, three in the south west and one in south central. Five people remain in intensive care with three in Saskatoon, one in the north central region, and one in the south west region.

Of the 1,479 cases, 208 are travellers, 730 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 406 have no known exposures, and 135 are under investigation by public health.

Across the province 64 cases are healthcare workers (although not all sourced their infections from work), 352 cases are from the far north area (346 far north west, 0 far north central, six far north east), 337 cases are from the south area (160 south west, 166 south central, 11 south east), 232 cases are from the north area (101 north west, 66 north central, 65 north east), 242 cases are from the Saskatoon area, 190 cases are from the central area (160 central west, 30 central east) and 125 cases are from the Regina area.

There are 236 cases involving people aged 19 and under. The remainder are adults.

There are 465 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 471 in the 40 to 59 age range, 253 in the 60 to 79 age range and 54 in the 80-plus range.

Fifty per cent of cases are females and 50 per cent are males.

Twenty people have died from COVID-19 complications.

Until today, 113,972 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan, with 927 of them performed yesterday.

Testing is available to anyone who requests it, regardless of whether they have symptoms. The province is working to increase testing capacity to 3,000 test per day by the middle of August and 4,000 tests per day by the beginning of September.
