The 2020 Municipal Elections are already on the minds of those in Saskatchewan even as it’s only halfway through August.

The City of Humboldt is making sure prospective candidates and returning members of council have all of the resources they need. A new webpage on the City of Humboldt’s website has been launched with numerous resources. Communications Manager Penny Lee said hopefully the resources help give some more information about what it takes to run for council.

“Serving in elected positions can be challenging, but it offers many rewards too,” Lee told northeastNOW. “So we want them to be aware of what they can expect, and what they can expect in return and those kinds of things.”

“I’ve added a number of links there that really summarize everything there is to know,” she added. “From the time of how to run, how to campaign, and additionally, there’s even a handbook for newly elected councilors.”

The “Candidates Information Booklet” can be downloaded as a PDF from the website. There’s also links to Government of Saskatchewan resources, as well as links to some webinars in early September from the Municipalities of Saskatchewan which are free and open to everyone.

Lee added there’s also some links there regarding women in politics.

“There’s still quite a minority there,” she said. “And it would be nice to see more women getting into it.”

The nomination form isn’t quite ready yet, but the call for nominations isn’t until Sept. 22.
