PAACF donate to the P.A. Safe Shelter for Women

The Prince Albert and Area Community Foundation (PAACF) has announced the Gail Hartsook Fund of $3,000 has been donated to the P.A. Safe Shelter for Women.

According to a media release, the funds will help offer their clients a computer for them to use in a workstation.

The fund, named for Gail Hartsook, was dedicated to all her jobs and passed away in 2017.

Hartsook’s first position in social work was in Vancouver until she became the director of the Prince Albert Mobile Crisis Centre. She had other leadership positions in Saskatchewan and Quebec.

She was described as a hardworking person who loved what she did and the people she worked with as well as her clients.

Hartsook’s family found it could create a legacy in her name with the P.A. Community Foundation called the Gail Hartsook Fund. This way Hartsook could continue to help the community.

Since Hartsook’s passion was in social work, her family offered scholarships to graduating students who were pursuing a career in that field. The foundation was able to award two scholarships to students in the southwest to Scott Tyler Cook and Maxine Ballantyne.

They then turned to the P.A. Safe Shelter for Women, which was another passion of Hartsook’s. The PAACF contacted the executive director of the shelter, Carol Soles, to explain the family wanted to donate.

Soles said the foundation needed a computer for women to use when they come to the shelter. Some women who use the shelter are involved in classes and the addition of the new technology will allow them to continue.
