B.C. saw 236 COVID-19 cases over past three days, including largest single-day total

KAMLOOPS — Provincial health officials are reporting 236 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. over the past three days — though other totals are quite positive.

Health Minister Adrian Dix was joined by Deputy Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reka Gustafson in reporting the COVID-19 case count has now reached 4,594 in B.C. since the pandemic arrived in B.C.

Gustafson said 100 new cases were recorded Saturday (Aug. 15) — the largest single-day increase since the pandemic began — 88 on Sunday and 48 on Monday.

The 4,594 cases are distributed through B.C. as follows:

• 1,419 (Vancouver Coastal)
• 2,425 (Fraser Health)
• 154 (Island Health)
• 405 (Interior Health)
• 117 (Northern Health)
• 74 (Reside outside of Canada)

The 405 cases in Interior Health represents an increase of six since Friday.

There are now 743 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., however just four people are hospitalized with the virus and three people are in critical care.

Gustafson reported two new deaths over the weekend, both in the Fraser Health Authority, bringing the province’s death toll to 198.

The total of those who have recovered from COVID-19 is 3,653, or 80 per cent of the total recorded cases.

There were two new outbreaks recorded in Lower Mainland care facilities, bringing the total number of active healthcare outbreaks in B.C. to 10.
