Light of Christ Catholic School Division implementing mask protocols as COVID-19 precaution

Aug 20, 2020 | 9:02 AM

Similar to the Living Sky School Division, Light of Christ Catholic Schools (LOCCS) are also implementing protocols for wearing face masks as part of its COVID-19 precautions for re-opening schools in September.

The following mask protocols will be in place:

All students will be required to wear a mask on buses.

Grades 4 to 12 students will be required to wear masks where physical distancing is not possible. As a result, masks must be worn when entering and exiting schools, while in classrooms, in hallways, or common areas when two metres of physical distancing is not possible. Masks are not required for outside activities as long as physical distancing is in place.

For Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 3, students will not be required to wear masks. “Parents may choose to provide masks for their children, and school staff will support their use as practical during school hours,” according to the division.

All staff must wear face-masks where physical distancing is not possible.

Any parents or visitors will be required to wear a mask while in schools. However, access to schools will be restricted during this time. According to the division, they must contact their school directly regarding protocols for accessing the school facility.

Contact tracing and self-assessment

Light of Christ is also implementing protocols for contact tracing. In addition to limiting non-essential visitors, all visitors to LOCCS buildings must complete an online form prior to entering the building. If there is a COVID-19 case connected to a LOCCSD facility, Public Health will need to be able to contact any visitors in attendance.

The division is also asking families and staff to complete daily self-assessments each morning prior to coming to their school. They will be given a self-assessment guide to follow. If any students or staff are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 they must stay home.

The division reports it is adopting enhanced cleaning measures for all facilities and extra sanitizing procedures for high traffic areas in particular.

Light of Christ is also providing more stations to access hand sanitizer and portable locations for hand-washing, in addition to the existing washroom facilities.

The division also indicated individual schools’ plans for the return-to-school will be posted by Aug. 26. Parents are asked to contact their school’s principal or check their school website and social media pages for the most up-to-date information.
