Spaces still open for car seat safety clinic next week

Aug 20, 2020 | 10:25 AM

A car seat clinic next week organized by KidsFirst North is already at half its capacity.

That’s according to Program Facilitator Merle Larson, who will be hosting the clinic Aug. 24 between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1327 La Ronge Avenue. Larson has been a certified child passenger technician since 2006 and she will be assisted at the clinic by a fellow technician from Prince Albert.

“We’re going to be doing checks with the parents,” Larson said of the 20-minute appointments. “I’m looking at how their car seat is installed, how tight the baby is in the seat, how tight the seat is in the car and, if it’s loose, we’re going to figure out how to tighten it up better.”

Larson mentioned it’s common for parents to be unsure whether or not a car seat has been installed properly. The clinic ensures the seat has been placed correctly in case the child should be involved in a motor vehicle accident or similar event.

So far, more than 20 people have registered for the clinic, which in now at half capacity. The clinic is typically held twice per year.

“Usually June and September, but this year was different with COVID-19 because we weren’t able to do them in June because they were on hold. We just got notice we can do them, but we have to do them by appointment only now,” she said.

Those interested in registering for the clinic can do so by contacting Larson at 1-306-425-0102. There will be prize draws for those who attend.
