Area Conservatives believe new federal Conservative leader will help unite the party

Battlefords-Lloydminster MP Rosemarie Falk is pleased to see Erin Michael O’Toole as the new federal Conservative Party leader.

“I think it’s great the federal leadership vote finally happened,” she said.

The vote was scheduled for the end of June but was extended due to the pandemic.

“I’m glad we have a leader that is focused on uniting the party, and making sure we focus on our goal of [ensuring] that [Prime Minister] Justin Trudeau is held to account,” she said.

Falk actually voted for leadership candidate Leslyn Lewis herself.

But she told battlefordsNOW Monday O’Toole is a good fit, and has the energy and background for the position.

“As someone who is an elected Member of Parliament, he is definitely raring to go,” she said. “He has the experience.”

She said O’Toole also carries with him the experience of being in former Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s cabinet.

“I am just looking forward to him uniting the party,.. also championing our Conservative principles that we have, and making sure Canadians know what Justin Trudeau and his Liberal team are doing to our country,” Falk said.

Orville Bilous, a member of the Battlefords-Lloydminster Conservative Association, was one of the regional organizers for O’Toole’s campaign team for Saskatchewan and Alberta.

He said having Erin O’Toole as the new federal Conservative leader will help bring the party together.

“He is very popular in the Maritimes and Ontario,” Bilous said. “Uniting the party completely is very important in the future too, if we plan to win a majority government.”
