Fire consumes midtown garage

Aug 25, 2020 | 12:00 PM

A single car garage in Prince Albert’s midtown area has been reduced to a pile of ash, as the result of a fire Monday evening.

At 6:44 p.m., the Prince Albert Fire Dept. responded to the 400 block of Seven St. E. and crews were on scene for about an hour. Darnell Sanderson lives across the alley and spoke with paNOW at the scene.

“Once we [saw] it we called 9-1-1 and it was burning and the power lines went down,” he said. “It was crazy.”

A spokesperson for SaskPower told paNOW the fire was right underneath two power lines, and was subsequently responsible for knocking out power to seven homes in the area.

Fortunately the lines were smaller and power was restored within a couple hours.

The cause of Monday’s fire remains under investigation. Neighbours at the scene told paNOW the garage was a hangout for gang-related activity, and expressed relief about it being gone.

The smoke from the fire could be seen from a long distance away. (Facebook)
