SaskTel Service Disruption

Restoration of SaskTel cellular services expected today

Aug 25, 2020 | 11:22 AM

Cellular services in communities outside of Spiritwood can expect to see service restored today after the community’s SaskTel building was consumed by fire on Aug. 23.

As a result of the fire, all local landline, internet, and cell services were lost.

According to a release, SaskTel crews worked throughout Monday night to get the transport and core equipment replaced and reconnected which was damaged in the fire.

SaskTel anticipates cellular services to the remaining communities of Mildred, Chitek Lake, Leoville, Shell Lake, Witchekan Lake, Rabbit Lake, and Belbutte will be restored by late this afternoon to early evening. As soon as cellular services are operational, SaskTel will shift their focus to the restoration of data service and landline services.

Without data service, businesses in the area do not have the ability to accept debit or credit payments, and it is recommended that anyone travelling to the area have cash on hand.

SaskTel will need to construct a permanent Central Distribution Office (CDO) in order to fully restore all services in the area which is expected to take up to 10 days for a full restoration of all SaskTel services.

People in the area are reminded to physically contact emergency service providers in the town of Spiritwood if they know of anyone who requires emergency services.
