P.A. Arts Centre unveils full slate of fall classes

There’s good news for local artists as the Prince Albert Arts Centre returns to nearly normal fall hours starting Sept. 8.

The facility reopened for summer programming in July but has not been operational on evenings or weekends since the pandemic forced its closure in March.

“It’s really important for people to have the arts at this time,” arts and culture programmer Kayanna Wirtz told paNOW. “It’s a good outlet and a good consistent thing. We’re trying to be as consistent and safe as possible, so people feel comfortable coming here and have a little break from what’s happening.”

Two dozen classes in disciplines like pottery, painting, beading, and yoga are currently open for registration on the City of P.A.’s website.

Along with in-person classes, virtual painting classes that proved successful over the summer will continue, Wirtz said. Virtual cooking classes, that allow participants to prepare meals along with an instructor from the comfort of their own kitchen, are also being introduced.

Wirtz explained the virtual offerings are important for people who aren’t comfortable being in a group setting or are immunocompromised.

Additional safety protocols, including frequent cleaning, stickers on the floor to facilitate distancing, and smaller class sizes will also be in effect at the facility. The names and phone numbers of all visitors will be recorded to facilitate contact tracing if needed.
