On a typical year, hundreds of runners would be in their last week of training for the Melfort Multi-K event.

With the cancellation of the 10th annual event due to the pandemic, organizer Allison Rogers said they still want people to get out and active.

Melfort Multi-K 9.5 will run throughout this week where participants can pledge to run their race on their own time.

“We will set up the archway on the 19th,” Rogers said. “Participants can come take their picture of themselves with their certificates that day.”

Certificates can be printed off here. On the certificates, participants are asked to write down their goals, what they achieved, take a picture, and post on social media.

The archway will be up at the Kerry Vickar Centre, on the corner of Assiniboine and Bemister Ave from 9 a.m. to noon.

“There has also been a running group on Facebook with Elise Coleman and Robin Luthi and they have been doing an amazing job with that,” Rogers said. “People have been setting some goals there.”

Melfort Multi-K 10 will hopefully happen on the same weekend in September of 2021.

“We didn’t want to lose momentum for that big event and that has been the goal of Multi-K from day one, to stay active and be healthy,” Rogers said.

The Melfort Multi-K continues to see numbers rise with around 600 participants last year. The event was sold-out before September which was a first. Rogers said they had anticipated even more for this year.

“It doesn’t matter when you run your race, it could be during the week but then come use the archway to snap the picture of yourself and document your success for another year,” Rogers said.

The three-hour window will help with accommodating social distancing guidelines.

“The goal is to be active and healthy and during these times, it is even more important,” Rogers said.
