Drive-thru supper in Gronlid to raise funds for community hall

A fundraiser for the community hall in Gronlid will look different this year.

The Gronlid Willing Workers typically host a trade fair to bring in funds for the operation and maintenance of the building but that isn’t possible due to the pandemic.

President Jackie Tluchak told northeastNOW this year they are hosting a drive-thru fall supper on Sept. 27.

“We figured we would just try to something different and use the fall to have this fall supper but have it picked up,” Tluchak said.

The cost is $15 a meal, reserve meals via text at 921-7255 or 921-6442, before Sept. 23.

The community has given some positive feedback on the supper so it will go ahead regardless of how many orders come in, according to Tluchak.

Pick-up is between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the meal which includes ham, scalloped potatoes, vegetables, coleslaw, bun, and dessert.

“We are hoping to get around 100 people but we are setting sights a little lower than that with this being the first one,” Tluchak said.

Along with covering maintenance costs, the committee has also been informed the tin on the roof of the hall needs replacing as well.

“If this one works out for September we would try to do another one in October,” Tluchak said. “We would like to sell our borscht that we normally sell at the trade fair for the one in October if this works out.”

All COVID rules including social distancing will be in effect in the pick-up line. Only 20 people will be allowed inside at one time with about 10 volunteers on hand as well.

“We will make up only a couple of plates at one time to keep the food warm as possible, especially for those delivering to those out working in the field,” Tluchak said.

There will also be five dozen bags of cabbage rolls available for $25 on a first come, first served basis.
