The Northwest Community Lodge Association (NCLA) gathered for its AGM yesterday to plan for 2021’s fundraising efforts.

The group is focused on raising funds to help furnish and provide equipment for the new long term care facility under construction.

The NLCA is a community based non-profit charity run by a group of volunteers. The group originally began as the Northwest Pioneers Lodge Association in 2015 and changed its name to Northwest Community Lodge Association to better reflect the geographical area the new lodge will serve.

At the meeting, Alannah Farr was voted in as president of the board, Crystal Murray as vice president, Kayelyn Marsollier as treasurer, Felicia Adams as secretary, Garry Ratke as board member, Jessica Lucan as a board member and other members retained their position. The NCLA was able to form enough interest to hold a board of 12 members.

Secretary Felicia Adams highlighted some potential activities for the year ahead including a spring fundraiser with comedian Jason Douglas on May 30. There will also be a brand launch including a new website. Major capital campaign matters are being researched with the assistance of the Saskatchewan Health Authority to devise a pricing schedule for those wishing to purchase a room.

“Special acknowledgment of three major donors include Meadow Lake Co-op, the Lions Club of Meadow Lake and the Meadow Lake Hospital Foundation,” Adams said at the meeting.

In previous years, concerns were raised about a former board member’s actions in their employment position impacting NCLA finances. A professional audit determined improper accounting and not fraud was a factor and the board’s finances are in order. Because the board does not have $250,000 in expenditures, a general audit is not required every year. The NCLA will have an audit reader instead.

Over the approximate five years of fundraising efforts, NCLA raised $156,656.

Crystal Murray highlighted the dream home fundraiser currently being built by Meadow Lake Properties and the City of Meadow Lake which is currently offered for sale for $530,000 as part of their fundraising efforts. The house is set to be built by early 2021.

“This is exciting and a large-scale project our community has been working on for many hours,” Murray said at the meeting. “We are currently at the construction stages and obtaining sponsorship for this project.”

In August, the NCLA held a golf tournament which garnered $10,687 toward their fundraising efforts. The NCLA is planning a large scale raffle along the lines of a vehicle, a camper or a skidoo. The board is also considering an online 50/50 draw and a major capital campaign for the coming year.
