For the same price as a monthly streaming service, you can support a local organization that has been providing mentorship to community youth for nearly 50 years.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Prince Albert is launching a new 30 Big Believers in 30 Days campaign, seeking 30 donors to sign up to a monthly giving plan.

Development Coordinator Natasha Thomson explained that there are different ways people can support the program.

“Not everyone can volunteer or wants to volunteer, but they can support the good work of our program by becoming a monthly donor,” Thomson said.

BBBS matches young people with volunteers, continuing to support these relationships for youth aged six to 18 which help build resilience, social awareness and employment readiness.

The campaign is launching on National BBBS day, which is Friday, Sept. 18, and will run for 30 days until Oct. 17. The goal is to find 30 donors who can help the organization take a planned, long term approach to providing the service by contributing as little as $10 per month.

According to the organization, stresses on the children and families served by BBBS are heightened because of the pandemic. Even at the best of times, these children and youth face more adversity than their peers.

The organization noted in a media release that back to school is a critical time to focus on children’s health and well-being as the in-school environment has changed dramatically, and those choosing to do their schooling from home face new challenges.

Across the country, volunteer mentors with BBBS support over 40,000 Canadian youth annually.
