Council to vote on next steps for new rec centre

Sep 21, 2020 | 8:00 AM

Prince Albert’s new arena and aquatic recreation centre is back on the city council agenda on Monday night.

Councillors are set to move ahead on a number of items related to the project, including awarding the tender for its detailed design and approving a permit to allow the developer to prepare the land for construction.

Less than a week ago, mayoral candidate Darryl Hickie said he would halt the project if elected and seek to build the recreation centre at a different location.

Also at Monday night’s meeting councillors will discuss mandating more notice to residents before the removal of trees as part of construction projects.

In other city news, while the sale of the former Quality Inn was scheduled to close on Friday Sept. 18, city manager Jim Toye told paNOW the deadline has been extended.

“We’re in the process of finalizing the document,” city manager Jim Toye told paNOW.com.
