Humboldt Food Truck Wars event cancelled

Sep 22, 2020 | 3:11 PM

The Food Truck Wars event that was slated for this weekend in Humboldt has been cancelled.

The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce had hoped that the event would attract more people to the downtown core since Street Fest had to be cancelled as well due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Executive Director of the Chamber, Brent Fitzpatrick reiterated the importance of still making an effort to shop local and support downtown businesses.

“Despite the fact that this event isn’t going ahead, it shouldn’t impact on your wanting to go and shop around downtown,” Fitzpatrick said.

The owner of foodtruckwars.ca, Dale Belair informed Fitzpatrick they had elected to cancel the Humboldt event, just before noon on Tuesday.

“It is very disappointing, 2020 has been a tough year with Street Fest being cancelled,” Fitzpatrick said. “This was a nice refresher for people so it is pretty disappointing that it won’t go ahead.”

The business community has felt the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic with most having to close back in March and April before being able to re-open when it was safe to do so.

“These people have been there for your bake sales and supporting activities and so this is really the time for the public to come through and give those businesses the assist,” Fitzpatrick said.

The Humboldt and District Chamber will still go ahead with moonlight madness in an effort to help out the local business community. More details on what that will look like are expected in the near future.
