Sep 24, 2020 | 5:32 PM

If anyone is still thinking of nominating an individual or business for a Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Award, as part of this year’s BBEX Goes To The Movies ceremony they will need to act soon.

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce is taking nominations until the end of the day on Friday.

Chief Operating Officer Linda Machniak said after a challenging year due to the pandemic, the chamber is looking forward to recognizing local businesses and business people’s efforts and achievements.

“We encourage people to get their nominations in,” she said. “We’re always happy to have more submitted. There are some great stories out there I’m sure that we would love to hear.”

There are only four categories for awards this year.

Nominations are being accepted for the BBEX Awards for the following categories: Business Resilience, Community Support, Everyday Heroes, and the Heather Guthrie Customer Service Star Award.

“We purposely made the point of [saying] ‘Let’s celebrate things that are going on this year that are unique to 2020,'” Machniak said.

The ceremony will be held at the Capitol Annex in North Battleford on Nov. 12, following COVID-19 social distancing protocols.

According to the chamber, the BBEX application system will be different this year. Nominees will not be required to fill out the standard application documents, and no additional materials need to be submitted.

Nominations will come from the local business community and the community at large who can nominate individuals and/or businesses who have served their community, sector or their customers.

People can nominate individuals and businesses directly on the chamber’s website.
