Cosmetologist Amanda Reynolds announces bid for Tisdale council

A cosmetologist in Tisdale is taking another crack at running for a spot on the town’s council.

Amanda Reynolds is a small business owner in Tisdale and has been involved in other aspects of the community, including her children’s sports and activities, the Chamber of Commerce, the Rockin’ the Square committee, and school boards.

“With recent events in the world, I think there’s a lot that can be done to keep our community great,” Reynolds told northeastNOW. “Our small business owners need a lot of help and I want to see what can be done about that. I like Tisdale; I’m born and raised here, and I want to keep doing things for the town.”

Reynolds said she wants to be more educated about town operations, as she was “puzzled” that council elected to raise property taxes by one per cent near the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic’s effect in Saskatchewan. She added Tisdale has been fortunate to welcome in more businesses in recent years, although the local business owners need help now more than ever.

“I’ve been lucky that my clientele picked up where I left off after I was allowed to resume services, but I know there are certain people that are struggling,” she said. “They’ve got payroll, extra expenses, and retail on their shelves that’s not moving because people are tending to order online more. I want to promote what we’ve got available in our community.”

Along with assisting small business owners, Reynolds wants to provide extra funding for the Tisdale Fire Hall. She intends to do a lot of her campaigning via social media to keep social distance.

Saskatchewan municipal elections take place Monday, Nov. 9.
