North Battleford’s new Archivist and Senior Gallery Assistant at the Allen Sapp Gallery, Misa Nikolic, has entered the race for the City’s top job.

In response to the pandemic’s effect on the city, he said, “What North Battleford needs most right now is optimism, cooperation, and empathy for our neighbours.”

One of Misa’s key goals is to elevate social issues to the top of the agenda, especially the long-standing question of crime prevention.

“We have to address the underlying social causes of crime – intergenerational poverty, homelessness, addiction, and institutionalized racism – and that starts with a reconciliation process that becomes a daily and self-renewing aspect of municipal government.”

Misa has worked in the visual arts sector for thirty years, recently transitioning to the museum industry. He has administrative experience as a project coordinator and as a non-profit board member.

A strong proponent of arts, culture, heritage, and local entrepreneurship, he hopes to return North Battleford to its traditional role as a cultural and economic hub for the region.
