Air Ronge Returning Officer Gavin Willins has released an initial list of candidates running in the local 2020 municipal election.
Long-time Mayor Gordon Stomp and current Deputy-Mayor Julie Baschuk are in a two-way race for the top spot on council. Stomp is campaigning to increase road repair and building a community hall, while Baschuk has largely focused on public safety and reducing crime.
Terry DesRoches and Corey Hardcastle are also seeking re-election with Greg Merriman deciding to leave his spot vacant. Seven others have submitted their names for nomination including Natalie Aldridge, Tabitha Burr, Shane Delaney, Amro Khalil, Kristy McDougall, Shamsun Nahar Haq and Bradley O’Brien.
This is an initial list of candidates as they now have 24 hours to withdraw from the race. The municipal election is scheduled to be held Nov. 9.
